Infrastructure Data Matters

On December 1, ASCE partnered with Autodesk and Mott MacDonald to discuss the important role digital data plays in today’s infrastructure landscape. Panelists explored how digital solutions—like AI, cloud collaboration, and connected data environments—are streamlining project information, improving decision-making, and enabling more resilient, future-ready infrastructure.

The Challenge: Aging Systems and a $3.7 Trillion Funding Gap

The 2025 ASCE Report Card for America’s Infrastructure highlights both progress made and continuing challenges for infrastructure, from aging systems and the impacts of extreme weather to a $3.7 trillion funding gap. As demand for new projects grows and the pressure to do more with less continues to rise, the ability to harness better information and break down project silos is more critical than ever.

Key Insights from Industry Leaders

Several initiatives to leverage data for improved outcomes in infrastructure were discussed, including the use of AI tools to enhance engineering efficiency and the need to create common data environments. Panelists concluded by discussing the role of data and technology in infrastructure projects, highlighting the need for sustained investment, improved cybersecurity measures, and the integration of AI and 3D spatial data models for a more connected and data-driven future.
