The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) on April 17th published a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) making $316 million available through programs to support and modernize passenger ferry service. Some $51 million is available through the Passenger Ferry Program, which supports capital projects to buy, replace, or upgrade ferries, terminals, and related equipment in urban areas. Meanwhile, $49 million is available through the Electric or Low-Emitting Ferry Program, which assists transit agencies with purchasing ferry vessels that use alternative fuels or on-board energy storage systems. Finally, $216 million is available through the Ferry Service for Rural Communities Program, which offers capital and planning support to ferry services in rural areas. The deadline to apply is June 17th.
