The Department of Transportation (DOT) on June 27th announced a combined funding opportunity making $5.57 billion available for major infrastructure projects. The Multimodal Project Discretionary Grant program includes $3.1 billion for the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) program, $1.8 billion for the National Infrastructure Project Assistance (MEGA) program, and $675 million for the Rural Surface Transportation Grant Program. These programs support surface transportation projects intended to improve safety, strengthen supply chains, and promote economic development.
The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which ASCE strongly supported, included $8 billion for the INFRA program, $5 billion for MEGA, and $2 billion for the Rural program. Last year, DOT rolled these three programs into a single funding opportunity to make it easier for interested parties to apply. For this round of funding, DOT will be accepting applications through August 21st.
