Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced March 28th the Department of Transportation (DOT) has opened a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) making $5.1 billion available for major infrastructure projects. This round of Multimodal Project Discretionary Grant (MPDG) program funding includes $2.7 billion for the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) program, $1.7 billion for the National Infrastructure Project Assistance (MEGA) program, and $780 million for the Rural Surface Transportation Grant Program. These programs support surface transportation projects intended to improve safety, strengthen supply chains, and promote economic development.
DOT has streamlined the application process for these discretionary grant programs into one funding opportunity. Since passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), the administration has provided about $8 billion through the MPDG program. Applications for this round of funding are due May 6th.
