The IIJA reauthorizes surface transportation programs with 34% more funding than the FAST Act provided.

These funds go a long way to address the $1.2 trillion, 10-year, surface transportation funding gap that ASCE identified in the 2021 Report Card.

The infrastructure package contains approximately $90 billion in investment for transit programs in urban and rural regions.

The bill provides $55 billion to upgrade water infrastructure and replace lead service lines throughout the country.
Energy
The bill invests $73 billion to rebuild the electric grid, calls for building thousands of miles of new power lines, and expanding renewable energy.
The bill also includes several provisions aimed at reinforcing the resilience of the electric grid, such as a nationwide grid reliability program.
That new program would be authorized at $5 billion over five years for projects, activities, technologies, equipment and hardening measures that reduce the likelihood and consequences of disruptive events.

Make communities safer and more resilient to the impacts of climate change and cyber-attacks, with an investment of over $50 billion. This includes funds to protect against droughts and floods, in addition to a major investment in weatherization.
