Managing Construction Electronically

The Michigan Department of Transportation estimates that the agency has saved approximately $12 million annually due to better efficiency, along with six million pieces of paper – that’s a lot of trees! It has reduced its average contract modification processing time from 30 days to three days. The agency used technology on a $150 million construction project, the reconstruction of I-96, to manage 55 firms and almost 500 construction workers by going paperless, completing work in about seven months. Those productivity gains are estimated to have saved Michigan over $1 million. They are working to use e-construction on all major projects starting this year.
