Magnets for Mega-Ships

With mega-ships coming to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, it is becoming increasingly necessary to automate terminal operations so that goods can be unloaded more quickly and routed to their final destinations. The TraPac Terminal at the Port of Los Angeles is now using auto straddle carriers that are controlled via magnets that are embedded underneath the terminal floor to help transport goods, with the help of lasers and differential GPS. This usage of automated operations at Trapac Terminal is reportedly the first of its kind globally, making it a near zero-emission environment while harnessing the efficiency of robots.
