Better Connected

The Port of Savannah, the fourth-largest and fastest growing container port in the country, is conveniently located near I-95, a major interstate that runs along the east coast. However, until recently there was no direct connection from the Port to the interstate. The Jimmy DeLoach Connector is a limited access highway that delivers trucks right to the port’s gates, relieving some of the traffic congestion on the state route that was previously the primary route to the port, and allowing trucks to avoid four traffic signals—a 10-minute savings per trip yielding a 8:1 benefit cost/ratio. Through Right-of-Way acquisition, construction time was dramatically reduced and upfront utility coordination avoiding relocating gas lines.
