Washington – The following is a statement by Robin A. Kemper, PE, President, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) in response to the meeting on infrastructure between President Trump, House Speaker Pelosi, Senate Democratic Leader Schumer:
“The American Society of Civil Engineers was thrilled to see President Trump, House Speaker Pelosi, and Senate Democratic Leader Schumer move beyond the political gridlock to discuss solutions for our nation’s deteriorating infrastructure. Now that they’ve taken the first step and proposed a $2 trillion investment solution, it’s time for Congress to act.
“Our nation’s infrastructure hasn’t seen sufficient investment in over a generation. ASCE is very glad to see the productive results of the meeting, because without this investment, American families will continue to pay the price of inaction through a hidden tax – $9 a day or $3,400 a year. Leaky water pipes, potholes, and lost productivity at work due to congestion is costing us.
“ASCE looks forward to working with business leaders, the federal government, and Congress to solve this problem for Americans today and in the future. It’s time to return our “D+” infrastructure to the world-class status it once had.”
