ASCE Leads Infrastructure Week Engagement

From May 18 to 22, ASCE joined state, local, and national partners to advocate for critical needs in the nation’s infrastructure network. Infrastructure Week provides an opportunity to recognize the impact and importance of infrastructure to the nation’s quality of life, economy, and security. To promote public activities and outreach, ASCE developed an engagement toolkit to help plan communications and outreach.

To kick off the week, ASCE published Grading the States, a new interactive storymap which showcases the ASCE state infrastructure report card program. The storymap highlights how state report cards are created, interaction with ASCE advocacy, and a state-by-state grade comparison. The storymap is available here.

Additionally, ASCE supported the United for Infrastructure signature event in Washington, DC. UFI is a collaborative initiative with ASCE serving as a steering committee members alongside the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, National Association of Counties, and National League of Cities among other leading national infrastructure organizations. Hosted at Business Roundtable, the event featured notable speakers including Federal Highway Administrator Sean McMaster, House Transportation and Infrastructure Ranking Member Rick Larsen (WA), and Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins. For one of the breakout sessions, ASCE President Marsha Anderson Bomar was joined by Dr. Freddy Paige, Assistant Professor at Virginia Tech University, provided updates on ASCE’s work to enhance the engineering workforce. On another breakout panel, David Sklar, Senior Vice President with WSP and member of ASCE’s Committee on America’s Infrastructure, addressed attendees on opportunities to advance infrastructure financing and public-private partnerships.

ASCE also hosted its latest Making the Grade webinar exploring ASCE’s report card and the state of school infrastructure. Co-hosted with the Build America’s Schools Infrastructure Coalition (BASIC), the session showcased the “Schools” chapter of the 2025 ASCE Report Card with infrastructure and engineering perspectives shared on funding, resilience, condition, and other critical areas. A recap of the event is available here.

At the state and local level, ASCE advocates led outreach and engagement across the country.
